For a surgeon, I would suggest Dr Trento at Cedar Sinai. I did a ton of reserach and he was well recommended. I was able to get my ASD closed by catheter procedure, but met with Trento to evaluate the procedure surgically first, before we had the final word that I was a candiate for the catheter closure. (I have no tissue on one side of the ASD making it a much more challenging procedure.) Previous sugeons I met with had suggested I would have to have robotic surgery.
I found Trento incredibly personable, thoughtful and informative. He actually directed me to the dr (Kar) who did my procedure. He made a personal call to Kar and followed up in the weeks that followed to make sure I was being taken care of.
I had met with other surgeons previously who did not follow up with me or suggest that there was another route to fix my ASD. I respect that Trentro took the time to help me thru this difficult process and sought the best solution for the patient first.
